"Amazing are just a few words that come to mind when I think about Gather.
A friend has been bragging about this place for awhile, so I thought I would stop in and check them out.
Quaint little place with an outside patio, when the temperature is not 85 degrees probably a nice place to sit. They offer a full bar and claim to have very good mixed drinks. Too early for me this afternoon.
The lunch menu is salads, soups, sandwiches and burgers. Dinner starts at 4pm, with a much larger menu. I have heard their short ribs and lamb were things to order then.
For lunch, I ordered the Thai chicken sandwich that was downright amazing, tender chicken with a plethora of taste and a good-sized portion. You had our choice of fries, soup or salad. I went with the salad and I was very pleased as well.
I usually don't rave on about a sandwiches, because chicken is usually is boring and overcooked and then they don't really do it for me, but these guys might have just got my number one spot for hot subs. I cannot wait to try them for dinner.
So, If I was you, I would check them out, you will definitely not be disappointed."

After six years of providing Yelm with highly regarded organic meals, Simply Organic moved to the Burnett Center and changed the name to Gather GastroPub. Owners Bryce Hughes and his wife Katie Stann dreamt of moving from the cafe-style restaurant on Yelm Avenue to a dine-in restaurant since the two opened Simply Organic Cafe in 2011.
Hughes, a 1996 Tenino High School graduate was born and raised in the Nisqually Valley and said he knew he would come back after leaving the small town to attend Seattle Art Institute’s Culinary School. After graduating the Institute, Hughes spent time as a chef at Providence Hospital and became an expert of the organic diet while working as an executive chef at Microsoft.
The location on Yelm Avenue was small and limited the creative expression of Hughes. Although Stann wanted to put a table in the cafe for people to have a place to eat, they were prohibited without a public restroom.
“When you do takeout, you are limited with how you can do things and what type of presentation you can do because you are literally handing it to them,” Stann said. “You have no say with how it’s plated or the atmosphere so Bryce is just now getting the chance to be creative and spread his wings and that makes me excited.”
“I always knew that he wanted a place with seats, everybody that comes in will feel the love that he puts in,” Stann said. “He loves what he does and it shows.”
Stann said the new location allows for an array of new menu options and allows for the “Best of Nisqually” hamburgers to be served all day, every day instead of their previous schedule only allowing burgers to be served on Fridays.
Along with new menu items, Gather will have four rotating Washington beers on tap, wine and signature cocktails including a peach, citrus gin martini. Stann said they use local vendors because local breweries put the same love into their craft as Gather puts into their food.
The new location is off to early success and all of the customers were excited to see the new place, Stann said of the opening weekend
